| Lansing Funeral Home is a locally owned and operated funeral home located near Ithaca, New York. The funeral home needed a web site to increase exposure, as well as a place to facilitate communication between funeral home clients, funeral directors and people attending the funerals.
The web site was created using PHP, MySQL and Flash. All the pages are dynamically generated and the site was built with a back-end content management system. There is also a customized tool to manage the obituary section of the site. Funeral Directors can add, subtract and edit obituaries. The design of the site was centered around satisfying a broad audience and creating a very professional look and feel. Since Lansing Funeral Home already had television marketing material, Flash was used to transition the commercial into a web animation and add to the already peaceful design of the web site. |

| The Oldtime Baseball Game is a charity baseball game held each year in Boston, MA. The game is a celebration of baseball played by some of Greater Boston's most talented high school and collegiate athletes, with all proceeds from the event donated to a local charity. In an effort to increase awareness of the game and also to enhance the marketing of the game a web site was proposed. The main goal of the web site was to offer a complimentary version of the yearly game program.
The web site was created using PHP with a MySQL backend. The design of the site came directly from the yearly game program, but was slightly modified to enable more content and efficient navigation. All the content on the site was created to be fully dynamic. Furthermore, custom tools were built to allow for teams and players to be added each year. This allows the site to keep an archive of players and teams. Finally, to enhance the baseball game feel, a Flash animation was created to scroll through information required for the game each year. |

Second, to provide clients a place to view monthly newsletters and quarterly sector allocation graphs.

My challenge in creating this web site was to make it identical to existing brochures, but at the same time distinguish the web site through the use of internet technologies. Marks & Company's main goals for their web site were to provide service information to prospective clients, provide newsletter and company information to existing clients, and also to provide an access point to a third-party account information service. This all had to be accomplished within a professional design that reflected organization, confidence, and stability.
The site was constructed using basic HTML broken out into various server-side include pieces. A content management system was designed using Perl to manage content stored in the server-side include files. Furthermore, a more complex Perl based newsletter management system was created to create, edit and delete monthly newsletters. With the clever Perl/Server-side include system in place, the site content can be completely maintained dynamically. |
